GTA 6 on Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch: Is It Coming?
Last checked: September 29, 2026
GTA 6 has not been officially announced for Nintendo Switch 2 or any model in the original Nintendo Switch family. Rockstar’s confirmed platforms remain PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with both versions scheduled for November 19, 2026.
There is no official Nintendo edition, preorder, price or release date. Unverified reports have claimed that Rockstar tested or explored a Switch 2 version, and a Cdiscount promotional document contains Switch 2 SKU labels for the game. Neither amounts to confirmation that a commercial port has been approved.
GTA 6 Nintendo platform status at a glance

The most accurate description is therefore “not announced.” The absence of Nintendo from the official platform list is not confirmation of a release, but it is not the same as an announced cancellation either.
What Rockstar, Take-Two and Nintendo have said
Rockstar’s official GTA VI website and support documentation name only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar’s platform and edition guide, last updated on August 18, 2026, also limits official preorders to those systems.
Take-Two’s August 7, 2026 release schedule reinforces that distinction. The company lists NBA 2K27 for Switch 2, showing that it identifies Nintendo releases when they are part of the announced lineup. The same schedule lists Grand Theft Auto VI only for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Nintendo has not announced GTA 6 for Switch 2, and no official Nintendo product page for the game has been published. Support for other Take-Two or Rockstar releases on Switch 2 does not automatically extend to GTA VI.
GTA 6 Switch 2 rumors: what the evidence actually shows
November 2025: claims that a Switch 2 build had been tested
In November 2025, Dexerto reported a claim from leaker Nash Weedle that GTA 6 had been tested on Switch 2. The article said NateTheHate had also supported the testing claim.
Kiwi Talkz, who has interviewed a number of former Rockstar developers, cautioned that hardware testing does not prove a game will enter full production or reach the market. Developers may test software on different systems simply to assess feasibility.
No public Switch 2 build, performance data or attributable Rockstar confirmation accompanied the report. The evidence supports saying that testing was claimed, not that a Nintendo edition was approved.
June 2026: an unverified outsourced-port claim
On June 30, 2026, The Times of India repeated another claim attributed to Nash Weedle. It said outside specialist studios were helping with a Switch 2 version and that the port would not arrive in 2026.
The report offered no independent corroboration, named development partner or technical evidence. Its suggested 2027 release window was an inference from the phrase “not this year,” rather than a date announced by Rockstar, Take-Two or Nintendo.
There is therefore no confirmed 2027 release window for GTA 6 on Switch 2.
The Cdiscount document is not an official product announcement
A PDF hosted on Cdiscount’s website does contain GTA VI SKU labels for Nintendo Switch 2. However, the entries appear in the terms of a €15 coupon promotion, specifically within the list of products excluded from the offer. The PDF is not a GTA VI product page, preorder page or release announcement.
The same document assigns unannounced Deluxe, Premium, Collector and Collector Ultimate editions to PS5, Xbox Series X and Switch 2. Rockstar’s official lineup contains only the Standard Edition and Ultimate Edition.
The PDF does not explain where the labels came from or whether they were placeholders. They remain unverified retailer data and do not show that Rockstar authorized a Switch 2 release.
September 2026: a former Rockstar developer expressed skepticism
Former Rockstar open-world designer Jérémy Hartvick, who worked on GTA VI from 2017 to 2020, discussed the possibility in a September 2026 Kiwi Talkz interview. He questioned whether the likely technical compromises and development cost would make a Switch 2 port commercially worthwhile.
Hartvick also indicated that the idea was not completely implausible. His comments are an informed personal assessment from a former employee, not a current Rockstar decision or confirmation that a port has been cancelled.
Could Nintendo Switch 2 run GTA 6?
Switch 2 has considerably more modern hardware than the original Switch. Nintendo confirms that the console uses a custom NVIDIA processor, 256 GB of UFS internal storage and microSD Express expansion. NVIDIA has also confirmed support for DLSS image reconstruction.
Those features could help a developer build a demanding port. DLSS can reduce the internal rendering resolution needed to produce the final image, but it does not remove every bottleneck. A GTA 6 conversion would still need to handle CPU-heavy world simulation, working-memory limits and continuous loading of scenery, textures and other assets. This is a technical inference based on how image reconstruction differs from the broader processing required by an open-world game.
Nintendo’s maximum output specifications should not be treated as a GTA 6 performance target either. Support for high resolutions or frame rates at the system level does not mean every game will use them.
Without a public Nintendo build, benchmark or official technical presentation, there is no reliable basis for assigning GTA 6 a Switch 2 resolution, frame rate or performance mode.
Rockstar already supports Switch 2, but that does not confirm GTA 6
Rockstar has a direct Switch 2 precedent. Red Dead Redemption launched for Nintendo Switch 2 on December 2, 2025, with DLSS, HDR, mouse controls and 60 fps support. Rockstar said the new console versions were created in collaboration with Double Eleven and Cast Iron Games.
A second useful example is Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, which launched natively for Switch 2 on June 5, 2025. CD Projekt Red released the base game and Phantom Liberty together as a digital download and on a 64 GB physical game card.
These releases show that large games and Rockstar titles can receive purpose-built Switch 2 versions. They do not prove that GTA 6 has comparable requirements, that Rockstar accepts the necessary compromises or that a Nintendo port is on its release schedule.
Will GTA 6 come to the original Nintendo Switch, Switch OLED or Switch Lite?
No version has been announced for the original Switch family. Reports about Switch 2 should not be extended to Switch, Switch OLED or Switch Lite, which share the older hardware platform.
Nintendo states that a Switch 2-exclusive game card will not run on an original Switch system. Even if Rockstar announced a Switch 2 edition in the future, that would not automatically create a version for the older consoles.
Original Switch owners should therefore treat the answer separately: there is currently no announced GTA 6 release for their hardware.
Is there a GTA 6 Nintendo Switch 2 release date?
No Nintendo Switch 2 release date has been announced.
The November 19, 2026 date applies only to the confirmed PS5 and Xbox Series X|S editions. The rumored 2027 timing is not an official window and should not be added to release tables as though it were confirmed.
There is also no reliable formula for estimating a Nintendo date from older Rockstar ports. Different games, hardware targets and external development arrangements follow different schedules.
How much would GTA 6 cost on Switch 2?
There is no official Nintendo-specific price because no Nintendo edition has been announced.
For context, the announced US console versions are priced at $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. Those figures apply to the confirmed releases and do not establish what a hypothetical Switch 2 version would cost.
Retailer placeholders cannot confirm either an edition or its price.
Can you play GTA 6 on Switch through cloud gaming or Remote Play?
There is currently no official native, cloud or Remote Play route for GTA 6 on Nintendo hardware.
The PlayStation Store page lists Remote Play support for the PS5 edition. Sony’s supported-device information covers PS5, PS4, PlayStation Portal, Windows PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android devices and selected Android TV hardware. Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 are not included.
Remote Play support on another platform does not turn the game into an official Nintendo release. Videos showing a game on a handheld screen may involve another device, unofficial software or a remote stream and should not be treated as proof of a native Switch port.
Bottom line
GTA 6 is not currently confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Switch OLED or Switch Lite. The only announced launch versions are for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
The testing claims, outsourced-development report and Cdiscount SKU labels are all unverified. Switch 2 has modern features and already runs major ports, including Red Dead Redemption and Cyberpunk 2077, but technical possibility is not the same as an announced product.
Until Rockstar or Take-Two adds Nintendo hardware to the official platform list, there is no Nintendo version to preorder and no Nintendo release date to plan around.
FAQ
Is GTA 6 confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2?
No. Rockstar has announced GTA 6 only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Is GTA 6 coming to Switch 2 in 2027?
No official 2027 window exists. The date came from an unverified report that inferred 2027 from a claim that the port would not arrive in 2026.
Can you preorder GTA 6 for Nintendo Switch 2?
There is no official Switch 2 edition to preorder. Retailer entries are not a substitute for a Rockstar or Take-Two announcement.
Would a Switch 2 version work on Switch OLED or Switch Lite?
Not automatically. Nintendo says Switch 2-exclusive game cards do not run on original Switch systems. Rockstar would need to confirm compatibility with the older hardware separately.
Has a developer proved that GTA 6 cannot run on Switch 2?
No. Former Rockstar developer Jérémy Hartvick expressed skepticism about the compromises and commercial case, but he did not provide an official Rockstar technical verdict.
Could Rockstar announce a Switch 2 version later?
A later announcement remains possible, but there is no confirmed version, schedule or price at present. The status should be updated only when Rockstar, Take-Two or Nintendo publishes verifiable information.
